Re: Mega drive msu1

The MSU1 is byuu's attempt to give the SNES the same kind of high-capacity media streaming support that other consoles like the PC-Engine CD-ROM² and Neo Geo CD have. The Mega Drive already has the official Mega CD add-on to provide high-capacity media streaming support, it already has a lot of game...

Re: Mode 7 like for higan?

Ah, yes, I see where you're coming from. It's not "mode 7" that makes games look better in bsnes, it's bsnes that makes mode 7 look better in games. That is, those games already used Mode 7, even on a real SNES, but bsnes can display Mode 7 graphics better than a real SNES can. Those enhancements ca...

Re: Mode 7 like for higan?

Honestly nintendo should of at least gave Mario 1-3 Mode 7 for the whole game as well for Kirby. Donkey Kong Country I really want to say for the whole game as well, but knowing about how that game series were made, I do think it would of pushed the snes way to much. I could be wrong though. And fo...

Re: bsnes vs Canoe, bsnes is better

From a game preservation perspective, it's a bit disappointing that Nintendo isn't putting their full weight behind preservation efforts. On the other hand, maybe they feel they've already put enough effort into game preservation (backing up their private game archives and system documentation, etc....

Re: Mode 7 like for higan?

Say like Mario 1-3, Kirby, Mega Man,Donkey Kong etc. I think they really would look nicer then before with something like what mode 7 for snes does for games. I mean, there's SNES ports of Super Mario Bros. 1-3 in Super Mario All-Stars, they do look great, but they don't use Mode 7. I think the SNE...

Re: bsnes vs Canoe, bsnes is better

The biggest reason that Canoe is not as accurate as bsnes is that Nintendo wanted an emulator that would run on a really cheap, really low-powered ARM CPU. They cut as many corners as they could, without breaking the 21 games they planned to ship, so that they could make the SNES Mini as cheap as po...

Re: Unreleased game vs bsnes

On the discord, somebody reported that it works fine in the latest v112, but not the earlier v111.2. There was a lot of messing around with rewind and run-ahead support in that time that messed with compatibility even though it didn't affect the basic emulation accuracy. It might be interesting to s...

Re: Mode 7 like for higan?

byuu has two separate projects, higan and bsnes, because he's pursuing two different goals. On one hand, he wants to preserve the behaviour of the SNES (and other consoles) as clearly and accurately as he can for posterity, so higan is focussed on clean, simple code that does exactly what real hardw...

Re: Could N64 be added?

Drawing 2D games generally requires moving things left or right, up or down, which mathematically just means addition and sometimes a little multiplication. Drawing 3D games requires scaling and rotation and perspective, which mathematically means trigonometry and matrices, and that's a lot more com...

Re: Could N64 be added?

byuu has said he's not interested in N64 emulation; 3D hardware (as used by the N64 and later consoles) works quite differently and is a lot more math-heavy than 2D hardware (as used by the SNES and previous consoles), and so it would require another twenty or so years' effort for byuu to bring an N...
